Add the verb 'be', because you are describing the persons state of being.

You cannot describe a non-living thing as 'young'.

Explanation

As the cat is alive, or living, we can use 'young'. If the object is non-living (building, pen, book) then we cannot use 'young'.

To make all of these sentences in the past tense change the verb 'be'.
